"Never without resources never an impasse he marches on the future- only Death, from Death alone he will find no rescue but from desperate plagues he has plotted his escapes."

"No withering illness laid you low, no strokes of the sword- a law to yourself, alone, no mortal like you, ever, you go down to the halls of Death alive and breathing."

Death is used in Antigone to personify the afterlife. An asset of this personification is that it gives a sense of finality to the afterlife. It also makes the reader conceptualize death with human characteristics, which lets the reader understand the personification from a new stand point. It adds depth to the "character" and lets you enjoy the story on a more personal level.

"And even if I die in the act, the death will be a glory. I'll lie with the one I love and loved by him-an outrage sacred to the gods!"

"Then she'll die...but her death will kill another."

Love is used by Antigone in the first quote to show her love towards her brother and that death would be welcomed for it would be next to her brother whom she had performed a noble act. The second quote, said by Haemon, shows how much he loves Antigone by saying that if she was to die then he would die as well. Love is expressed throughout the entire play to give the characters more depth and allow the audience to see more emotion and connect. In this play, love is so strong that the characters would allow their lives to be taken to be with another if it came to that, which in the end it did.
