Examine the epics The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Aeneid. What similarities do they have in the course of these tales?

One main similarity between the three epics is the inclusion of mortal heros. The hero in The Iliad was Achilles, the hero in The Odyssey was Odysseus, and the hero in The Aeneid was Aeneas. The success of the hero and his party depends on the hero with the occasional help from the gods.
Also present in each epic are one or more gods/goddesses who give the hero a hard time. In the Iliad, there were many gods who sided with the Trojans, including Zeus, Ares, Apollo, and Artemis. The other epics only had one god/goddess whom constantly gave the hero many troubles. After Odysseus blinded Polythemus, Poseidon never ceased to give Odysseus a hard time at sea. In the Aneid, Hera was always fighting against Aeneas in order to detain him from founding Rome.
A final comparison of the three epics also finds that each of the heros prevail in the end.

There are a couple main reasons making the three epics similar. First and most obvious is the fact that all three are based around the same time period. Since they were all based around the same time they all included the same heroes, although each was based on a different one. The other reason that makes the epics similar is the fact that in each the heroes are faced with tons of perils brought on by both gods and monsters.

One similarity between the epics are that the main characters(the heroes) are men of flesh and blood with whom the gods have sided. Well, only some of the gods. Like all epics, these three heroes faced struggle after struggle as well as multiple obstacles resulting in death for some and near-death for others including the heroes.
Over all, they are three adventure stories full of action and love such as with Odysseus and his wife, Penelope, as well as Calypso. All three also show signs of arrogance as they go along their travels but seeing as they continue to play their cards right, and ultimately with help from the gods, in the end they are victorious.
